Summer 2014 – review and photos
Our summer was special. We extended our courses to three and we brought in new chefs, Ollie Rowe and Jane Baxter to run a week each. We introduced new activities; sausage making and fishing. Beth, a storyteller, told local tales around the fire. We had talks from cheese-makers, a food anthropologist and a dairy farmer. Patrick Holden spoke about “What should we eat?” Valentine Warner and Elisabeth Luard were our guest chefs and took over the kitchen for a day. We played games, went to the beach and cooked/ate A LOT. On the whole, we were blessed with good weather and could really enjoy the beauty of where we were, on the Ceredigion coast.
“Last Summer at Root Camp, I shared a delicious supper with a group of city dwelling young people, clearly liberated by their close encounter with nature, and bonded by sharing tasty food from locally grown vegetables – foods some of them had never eaten before. It was amazing, and an inspiration!” Patrick Holden (Farmer and Director, Sustainable Food Trust)
“How did we manage to make courgettes taste so good?”
Joseph, Root Camper
